The Lazy Girl Phenomenon: Work-life balance is gaining in importance

You may have already heard of her. About a girl from America who exchanged her dream job for a job where she has a decent salary and doesn't take a break from work. However, a lazy girl is not lazy at all.

27-year-old Gabrielle Judge from Colorado graduated in IT and landed her dream job right after graduation. At least she thought she was the one of her dreams. But she soon discovered that working 50-60 hours a week as a consultant was not what she really wanted in life. Because she didn't have time to live. She had a good salary for nothing.

So she decided to change things. She has an Anti Work Girlboss channel on TikTok and her posts with the hashtag #lazygirljob have millions of views.

She is not lazy, but she does not want to slave

With the activity on the channel, she started a campaign, which, according to her, should not be about not wanting to work, but about people looking for work that will support them and at the same time they will have time for their lives.

Many young (and not only) Americans have been touched by her message and prefer a comfortable job where they earn something, but do not work overtime, evenings, weekends or from a couch on vacation, over a star career.

"Work-life balance is really gaining importance. Employers who can achieve it through various means gain a great advantage on the labor market," Lívia Bachratá is convinced, Director of Public Affairs at Edenred.[BL1]

They see upset parents

Although the opinions of experts on the activities and attitude of the "lazy girl" differ, they agree on one thing: Gabrielle, as well as her peers, too often saw parents bored from work, sitting at the computer and at home, fulfilling work tasks at the expense of family life. Their children do not want this. They don't want to toil to the point of being able to one day fulfill their dream of a good life. They want to live in the present.

"Work should be an opportunity to apply one's talent, education and skills, and at the same time a way to earn money, so that a person can live a full life according to his ideas. If an employee is frustrated for a long time with the amount of work or the method of remuneration, his performance naturally decreases, and his dissatisfaction may also affect his health. pointed out an expert from Edenred.

She is rightly supported by the rising statistics of people who are burnt out from work and full waiting rooms at psychiatrists, because the number of people suffering from depression is increasing considerably.

Lazy girl as a role model

"Lazy" Gabrielle insists on repeating that she's not actually lazy. And in the same way, the thousands of young women who follow her example and look for a job in which she really "fell" at the end of the working hours and do not take any work worries home with her, are not lazy either. What is not done today will be done tomorrow.

Currently, her job consists of sending emails and making a few phone calls a day. Apparently it fills her up, because she looks satisfied. However, many people want to achieve goals, fulfill challenges, grow in their career, but they too can be inspired by the "lazy girl" phenomenon.

"It is very useful to be able to guard your boundaries and compensate for work performance with enough rest. This is the best prevention of burnout or other health problems caused by overwork." continues L. Bachratá.

Following the example of the "lazy girl", you have to decide when to stop working. For example, establish a rule that no work is done after 17.00 p.m., no matter what happens. Or any other that can be combined with reality.

"The Lazy Girl" shows us that a person and their needs are at least as important as the needs and expectations of their employer. Or even more important.

The "lazy girl" understood that putting off life until tomorrow is not the way to a good life. "Children grow quickly, partnerships and friendships require time and care. A person himself also needs time for his hobbies, physical and mental regeneration. All this shows us the phenomenon of the 'lazy girl'. Maintaining a work-life balance is the best way to be satisfied both at work and in life as such." concludes L. Bachratá.
