FOOD - recommendations for restaurants

FOOD = Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand

The European project FOOD was created with a view to supporting and promoting balanced nutrition and the healthier lifestyle.
Its main objectives are to educate employees in order to help them to improve their nutritional choices and also to improve the nutritional quality of nutrition on offer by liaising with food providers.

FOOD - recommendations for restaurants

1.   Favor ways of cooking as steam, oven, or grill.
2.   Offer possibility to choose 1/2 size meal.
3. Do not put salt on the table.
4. Offer also products based on the whole wheat flour, whole wheat pasta etc. Serve whole wheat bread if customer ask for it.
5. Serve the sauce aside.
6. Enable the guest to eat more vegetables - by for example leave space for salad on the plate or serve salad first or serve more salad on the plate.
7. Always tap water available.
8. Low fat dressing and olive oil available.
9. Preference for daily desert - fresh fruit, fruit desert or daity desert.
10. Offer to choose the type of side dish to food – also for daily menu.
11. Offer more meal based on low fat meat, for example: poultry, beef.
12. Inform about the nutritive value (KJ) of offered meal.
